Working to preserve the Canning Wetlands

The good work of environmental conservation groups in the Canning River Wetlands is being undermined by Federal Government cuts to environmental funding in the region.

Conservation efforts suffered a double blow when WA received only 10% of funding in the Eastern-centric Caring for Our Country Open Grants and then Perth Natural Resource Management had its funding cut significantly in the Regional Grants.

The result has been job losses and project cancellation.

Local voluntary groups should be commended for their continued efforts in the wetlands.

They are transforming the wetlands into one of the finest environmental, family and recreation areas in Perth.

The Wilson Wetlands Action Group and the Canning River Regional Park Volunteers deserve recognition in particular for their efforts clearing weeds and planting native vegetation.

If you would like to become a volunteer please contact my office for more information.Links:

your link to what to do in Perth is great but - not if you don't know anyone here I don't like PERTH - or the people that live here because I had to live in a complex located in Lynwood full of nut cases that sent me and my Mum over the edge. I threw myself into my work just to keep sane. That(s) when my social life was effected. you do the math thats 2 hours of driving 5 days a week and when I return here no one will be friendly or help you or be nice to you they put a restraining order on you when you get out of your car in heat and abuse you then set you up with the Police that they know - the point is I dont care anymore about anything other than my work. Thats nice that you know so many wonderful people that you work with and socialize with.

Well hello again Steve, so getting back to the main topic here, what is going on with the project above, at the top - "The Wet Lands" has the budget gone, due to over spending in this department? I think we would all like an answer here from you. How bad is the area, and can it be fixed. Would you like us to volunteer to clean it up since its really our problem - or should we get together and organize a rally? Just an Idea.
