Campaign for a Manning Road on-ramp:  Issue Update

We received some great feedback on our election commitment of $10m towards the Manning Road on-ramp.  Many people have contacted me since to ask for an update.

Unfortunately the Gillard Labor Government did not make any commitment towards the on-ramp so the wait continues.

The on-ramp needs to be built and I remain committed to making sure this happens.

Campaign for a Manning Road on-ramp

Residents have contacted me about a dangerous stretch of road connecting Manning Road and the Kwinana Freeway.

As many locals will be aware, any car wishing to join the Kwinana Freeway going south from Manning Road has to negotiate a tricky stretch of road, doing a loop around the freeway involving merging and lane-changing.

Other drivers choose to cut through residential streets in Manning and Como to access the freeway from Canning Bridge, creating traffic problems for these neighbourhoods.

A solution to this problem would be an on-ramp connecting Manning Road and Kwinana Freeway South.

Along with my state colleague, the Member for South Perth, I am calling for the Federal and State Governments to jointly fund this project as a matter of priority. I have called for an on-ramp in Federal Parliament.

This infrastructure is urgently needed to accommodate the increase in traffic using the Kwinana Freeway.

Plans for an on-ramp have been on the table since the 1980s! It is time for action.

Your help is needed. If you are willing to support the campaign I ask that you complete my Manning Community Issues survey by clicking here. With your help we can secure this important piece of infrastructure for the community.

You can print and post the survey to PO Box 1060 EAST VICTORIA PARK WA 6981.

about time somebody fixed this. why has it taken so long?
as usual the road boffins must all live north of the river and assume
thats the only way anyone needs to go.

I am a strong supporter of this initiative. It is currently very dangerous and as the State government plans to bring high density to the Canning Bridge Area in the coming years it is vital that our road networks be improved so that they can cope with the planned influx of residents.

Hi, I just read about Campaign for a Manning Road On-Ramp. I own property that is not affected by Manning Rd, however my property os close to Ley Street. It is possibel that some traffic travelling west on Manning Rd and wishing to travel south on Kwinana Freeway would use Ley St and Henley Street to access the Fwy south ramp rather than negotiating through the interchange. If Ley Street does in fact carry traffic that wishes to access the Kwinana Freeway South, then the residential character and safety of Ley St is being compromised by regional traffic. This is not acceptable as residents, children and elderly people cross Ley St regularly to access McDougall Park (which is a very attractive park).
In addition, traffic travelling west on Canning Hwy and wishing to travel east on Manning Rd often travel along Henley St and Manning Rd (as a short cut). This is equally unacceptable.

Solutions to these problems are needed. Deterrents such as round abouts and traffic calming, as presently being installed by the City of South Perth, may not work in the longer term. Congestion at the Canning hwy/Kwinana Freeway interchange wiil get worse and eventually deter drivers from that interchange and they will look for other routes, such as the Henley-Ley Sts short cut.

I hope this helps the community secure a better safer traffic environment.

thanks for getting this iniative off that ground as it is well overdue. I have been living in Mt Henry / Como for the last 10 years and couldnt understand why this wasnt a priority then. Now with the Canning Bridge Bus & Rail traffic conjestion (crazy loop system to travel south) i feel this needs to be addresed urgently befiore possible fertalities arise... thank you again
