Many residents from Manning, Como, South Perth, Waterford, Kensington, Salter Point and Karawara communities have contacted my office asking about getting aquatic facilities in the South Perth area so I am surveying those suburbs to see the amount of support for an aquatic centre.

While other local government areas in Swan including the Town of Victoria Park, City of Belmont, City of Canning and City of Gosnells all have, or are in the process of constructing high quality aquatic centres for their residents, the City of South Perth has no such facility.

Wesley College has private facilities available but there is limited access for the general public.  This has been raised by constituents when they have contacted me.

That is why I am supporting a public aquatic centre for the City of South Perth.  I have suggested the aquatic centre could be coupled with the George Burnett Leisure Centre in Karawara – although there may be other options available.

The benefits such a facility could bring to the health and well-being of the community are priceless - it would work to bring the community together in a common place.

A great example is the Aqualife Centre in East Victoria Park, where all age groups use the pools and many seniors benefit from the hydrotherapy facilities all year round.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

I am working to build support for this project between local, state and federal governments.

The council would have to initiate the project; however community projects like this usually attract significant contributions from state and federal sources.

You can help by completing the online survey.
