I am pleased to report that my campaign against the drinking game ‘Pass-Out’ has been successful.
Earlier in the year I was shocked to discover the drinking game advertised in an insert in The West Australian newspaper alongside children’s games.
It is not appropriate for a game implicitly encouraging people to drink until they ‘Pass-Out’ to be advertised at all in Western Australia.
I immediately contacted the Chairman of the Australian Classification Board, Donald McDonald and asked for the game to be ‘called in’ for investigation.
Mr McDonald recently contacted me to tell me that the board called the game in and decided to make it Category 1 Restricted.
This means that the game will no longer be able to be advertised in public places such as inserts in the West Australian. Instead it can only be sold within 750 specially registered premises in Western Australia and must be distributed in a plain wrapper or opaque material.
This is a positive step forward in the fight against binge drinking which I feel particularly strongly about, given the deaths of two of my sisters as a result of excessive alcohol consumption.
