Campaign to open a Belmont Medicare Office by 2010

Many local people have joined my campaign to ensure a Belmont Medicare Office is opened before 2010.

I promoted the opening by 2010 after a series of Federal Government delays in the delivery of this important service.

I am pleased to say that the campaign has had some success - there have been a number of recent developments:

• The Minister for Human Services, who was involved in the misleading media announcement in the local paper, has now been moved to a different portfolio.

• We now finally have a date for the opening - January 2010.

• We have been told that the Office will open in Belmont Forum.

I welcome this news, but as it is the Government's 5th announcement of its election promise I will continue to work in Parliament to ensure that it does finally deliver.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the campaign.

I am in no doubt that our combined efforts have helped to ensure the opening of this office by 2010.

It is a success story for the community.
