Two years ago the people of Belmont were promised a Medicare Office by Labor in the lead up to the federal election.
Unfortunately the people of Belmont still have no Medicare Office.
Since being elected I have repeatedly called on the Government to deliver its promise. I have arranged for the Minister for Human Services to be questioned on this subject on three occasions but he can still only say 'decisions on timing have not yer been made'.
You may have seen the Minister's media stunt in the local newspaper.
He was quoted as saying: 'We promised residents in the electorate at the last election that we would deliver on this service and that's what we've done'.
Well there is still no Medicare Office in Belmont so how can the Minister say it's done? There is still no time frame for its delivery.
I am disappointed that the Government continues to pursue spin over substance. I will be writing directly to Nicola Roxon to express my dissatisfaction at the delays on behalf of the people of belmont.
GOVERNMENT MUST OPEN OFFICE BEFORE 2010
I regularly receive calls from Belmont residents who find it difficult to make to journey to Booragoon or Cannington Medicare.
How difficult can it be to open a new office? it can take less than two months to open a Subway Restaurant but the Government has not managed a Medicare Office in two years.
Today I have started a campaign for the Belmont Medicare Office to be opened before 2010. We have had enough of the broken promises and re-announcements. It is now time for the Government to deliver.
Your help is needed. If you are willing to support the campaign I ask that you click here and print off, complete and return the form. We must keep the pressure up to secure this important service for the local community.
