As a single custodial father and small business owner I am pleased to advise you of the Coalition's Paid Parental Leave policy that will provide six months of leave at full pay within the cap.
The Coalition's paid parental leave scheme will:
- Give the primary carer 26 weeks leave at their actual salary within the proposed cap or 26 weeks at the minimum wage, which ever is greater.
- Provide paid parental leave for all eligible employees including contractors and the self-employed.
- Be available to part-time and casual workers if they meet the work test of at least one day a week in 10 of the previous 13 months.
- Be administered by the Family Assistance Office, not by the business employing the carer.
- Not impose more red tape or cost on small business.
- Be funded by a levy on big business with a tax liability above $5 million.
Click here for a link to the policy consultation document which also includes a comparison of the Coalition's policy with the Labor Party's scheme.
As you will see, the Labor Party's proposal only provides for 18 weeks of paid parental leave at the national minimum wage, 2 months less than the Coalition's policy.
