In recent weeks I have been contacted by a growing number of constituents in East Victoria Park voicing their concerns at the rise in anti-social behaviour, damage caused to cars parked in several streets and home burglaries.
Given that these problems needed the attention of the WA Police and the WA Liberal Government, I wrote to the Minister of Police in mid May asking him to direct the local Police to contact my office to update me on what operations were taking place in East Victoria Park.
Late last week I was contacted by the Officer in Charge of Kensington Police, who updated me on police activities which included surveillance of Hubert and Somerset Streets. Although Kensington Police were helpful in informing me of progress, two issues were very clear:
· The train line is a major contributor to this problem,
· Security at train stations in East Victoria Park need to be upgraded to protect residents.
In the coming weeks I will be meeting with local Police and Ministers of the WA Liberal Government to stress the urgency of the issue and press the case for immediate action in East Victoria Park.
I will be with affected residents every step of the way.
